Why is regular exercise important for your dog?

Wheatens need to go for walks, or little jaunts with you. They need exercise and fresh air, and of course, they want to go out and see the neighborhood or the park. This is our 7 year old neutered male, Connor. He has sweet temperament, and is very affectionate. He does NOT, however, enjoy the presence of squirrels, mice or any other manner of rodent. Terriers have certain qualities that they were bred for - jobs they had on the farm in their country of origin, Ireland. Their jobs were to herd goats and play with children, guard the household, and rid the farm of vermin. These dogs do have a strong "chase" instinct, and will go after small animals which run away. When walking your dog, keep in mind that not every dog is in the mood for a visit, and not every situation is a perfect time to "greet" another dog. Wheatens also sport this great coat of hair, and LOVE the cool air. In summer, keep the walks brief, and remember that hot pavement can burn dogs' feet!
