Grooming

It's important that everyone in the family understands that regular grooming is important. Your Matrix Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier will need to be combed every few days. A quality comb and spray de-tangler/conditioner are your main tools, along with patience, and of course treats and rewards. The best reward is always your expression of love.

Children in the family can help with this role, and gentle grooming will help build the bond between your dog and family members. A quality grooming table with an arm will keep your dog still and positioned at a comfortable level for you to accomplish your combing and trimming.

Gently teaching your puppy to stand on the grooming table is your first step. Puppies at Matrix have already had this experience as part of their development training, and they have been groomed several times before they come to you.

Provide parasite prevention to keep everyone safe from diseases, and prevent the irritation and itch that are caused by flea bites. Insects are the main vector for many diseases. While you comb, check for flea "dirt," especially at the back and tail area.

Mist the coat with some nicely scented detangling spray, then comb gently, and all the way to the skin. Be sure to get out tangles that may form in the "armpits" and near the chest area. A rolled leather collar will help prevent breakage of the hair.

When you apply to our waiting list, we will provide you a list of items we recommend that you purchase in preparation to bring home and care for your Matrix Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier puppy. It's been our experience that regular grooming helps your dog look its best, and prevents testy arguments when it's time to do full grooming and haircuts.
